Lydia's first day of preschool

Lydia is going to preschool 2 mornings a week while I work.  Here she is on her first day.  She is in a class with all boys.  Luckily Lydia can hold her own with the boys. :-)

Amelia's first day of Kindergarten

Amelia started Kindergarten on August 10th.  The night before the first day of school, she had an open house/meet the teacher night.  We got to go and see her classroom and meet her teacher, Mrs. Heard.  So far, Amelia has really enjoyed school, but has not enjoyed waking up so early in the morning.  It takes me about 20 minutes to get her to a place where she is functioning enough to eat her breakfast!  Hopefully it gets easier as the school year goes on.

After the open house, we went to eat at the nearby Mexican restaurant.  We even got some dessert!

About to leave her first day of school.  Lydia needs to be included in everything!

This is our interpretation of a the German "schultuete".  In Germany, kids get a cone like this filled with goodies on their first day of 1st grade (1st grade in Germany is the first year of primary school).  We decided to give it to Amelia this year for Kindergarten since K is the all important first year of school here in the US.  She was surprised and excited.  We filled it with books, socks, a toothbrush, gum, and some fruit chewies :-).

Walking into school

Amelia with several of her girl friends from preschool.  We are very lucky that many of her friends from preschool are also at Mt. Vernon.

At Mt. Vernon, they do not let the parents go to the Kindergarten classes with the students on the first day (that is just wrong!!!).  Instead, we had to take them to the gym and the teachers came to the gym and lined up their class and then marched them off to the classrooms (sans parents).

There she goes!!!

Prescott Family Reunion 2012

Last weekend, we had the 2nd EVER Prescott Family reunion (my dad's side of the family).  This year we had perfect attendance!  That is pretty impressive considering all of my cousins and their families live all over the country.  It was the first time that everyone had all been together.  On Friday night, we went to downtown Hendersonville for ice cream and music on Main Street.

The kids enjoyed dancing to the music.

My sister and I with our cousin Lindsey.

On Saturday, we all met at the Davidson River in the Pisgah National Forest and spent the day playing in the river, tubing, grilling out, and getting to spend time with family that some of us had not seen in over a decade!!

Lydia had to wear ear plugs and a head band (to keep the plugs in place) because of her tubes.

The whole group (minus my dad who was messing with the camera).  I didn't get a good shot of all of us, but there were 32 people there!

All 11 of the first cousins on my dad's side.

It was a fun weekend!  I hope it doesn't take another 10 years for everyone to be together again!!!

Random Summer Photos

Kendrick and Sara and their dog Toby came to visit one weekend.

Tomatoes and peppers from our garden

Swinging in our pajamas - it has been so hot that the only time we can play in our backyard is in the morning.

Sweet sisters (they don't always get along this well, but they do love each other!)

Amelia and I rode down to Mobile with my parents and my sister and Beck to go to a wedding and to see my grandmother.  Christoph and Lydia had a father/daughter bonding weekend at home.  :-)

Christoph and I went out to eat at a nice restaurant one night while we were in Hilton Head.  It was right on the water and we saw dauphins swimming by.
