Germany Part 1 (Bodenwerder)

We spent our first night in Germany in Heidelberg with Christoph's sister, Katharina, and her family.  We even got to attend cousin Zoe's third birthday party which was fun and a good reason to stay awake on the first day!  After the first night, we headed up to Bodenwerder (by train) to spend several days with Christoph's grandparents, Oma and Opa.

On the plane - both girls did a great job on the plane ride over.  Lydia slept for 3/4s of the trip and Amelia also slept for a couple of hours.

On the train up to Bodenwerder - Lydia slept and I wished that I was sleeping!

Feeding the ducks by the river

Getting ready to ride the Rodelbahn (kind of like an alpine slide).  This was within walking distance of Oma and Opa's house.  Amelia loved it!

Ha Ha!  We were going fast! :-)

We checked out a nearby castle...

And then up to the top of a nearby mountain.  It was COLD up there!

On one afternoon and evening in Bodenwerder, we went over to our friends Inken and Christian's house.  They have 2 kids named Ada and Grisha and my kids loved playing with them!  Inken and Christian have a super cool house with lots of fun outside play equipment and tons of toys.  We played for awhile and then stayed for pizza and french fries.  The girls had a blast and it was a fun evening!  Can't wait to see them again on our next trip.

The slide in their front yard.  What a beautiful view!

Amelia LOVED this rope balancing thing.  When we were leaving, she asked if Santa could bring one of those for us at our house.  Uh oh!

Finding some walnuts from the tree across the street from their house.

Ada is showing Amelia how to crack the walnuts open and eat them.

We had a great time!  Next up Tubingen...

Stone Mountain

Not sure why Amelia is frowning in this picture, but I think she had fun.

We took the girls to Stone Mountain on the last weekend in September.  It was kind of a gray day, but we had a good time riding the train and riding the gondola up to the top of Stone Mountain.  Christoph got 2 season pass tickets to Stone Mountain through his work so we will definitely be back soon.

Apple Picking

This year we tried a new apple orchard in Blue Ridge, GA.  It was a beautiful day and we had lots of fun despite the MANY yellow jackets!  Luckily none of us got stung.

After we picked apples, we ate lunch and ice cream in the super cute town on Blue Ridge, GA.

Backyard Campout

Having a camp out was on our summer list, but we never got to it during the summer.  It was just too hot and muggy to sleep outside so we waited until the weather got a little cooler.  We ate our dinner of sausages, potatoes, carrots and onions cooked over the campfire.  Then we made smores and let the kids play outside until it got dark.  Christoph and Amelia slept outside in the tent and Lydia and I slept inside in our beds.  I am going to have to be farther than 20 feet from my bed in order to choose sleeping in tent.  Amelia had a great time.  The next morning when Lydia and I went out to check on them, Amelia said that next time she wanted to camp in the woods and that she might just want to live in a tent!!  I am glad that they had fun.
